moleman series: grand central terminal

..the moleman is back with new fun stuff..

..i really had fun playing around with this lens, it’s a challenge too because you get to see things in a wider, different perspective.. of course i planned what i wanted to shoot but i had to look around & turn around to see if it’ll look good, most of the time i had the camera stuck to my face as i did that weird dance to see firsthand what the effect would be.. of course i got weird looks from people around me but that’s what i like about nyc, most people don’t give a s**t..

..this here’s grand central terminal, shot from the west entrance..

moleman series: bottom of the rock

..if you’ve been to the Top of the Rock, then you’d know that this is the “bottom” of the rock.. this is where you shell out $$ to pay for a great view.. the view’s better than Empire State’s though..

..this is where i got this..

..i’ve showed in the previous posts what the exterior of Trinity Church looks like, now let’s delve deeper.. as deep as where Nicholas Cage went (and possibly afford a Ferrari when i surface the catacombs).. lol.. yep, this is the Trinity Church as referenced by the movie National Treasure.. i poked around and couldn’t find an entrance to the treasure trove.. don’t tell me it ain’t true.. *shock*

..on a sidenote, turns out, letterman’s still funny. hehe..

speak of the devil

..back when i was in a metal band, i was pretty much satisfied with a $100 beat-up guitar and a boss metal zone stomp box.. (i guess i still owe my buddy jerky for that guitar.. ah hell, he’s a rich kid anyways.. hehe..) even though feedback was hellish, i’d still crank up the knobs to get that rich chunky sound and we’d unleash hell covering songs from slayer, pantera & machine head.. hah! those were the good times..

..this here’s the headstock of a B.C. Rich Kerry King Wartribe guitar owned by my buddy jones.. this axe is WICKED!!! AXE-LLENT!!! 😀 on my next visit to texas, we’re gonna go visit dimebag darrel’s grave.. hah! 😀

corollary to that, here’s this weekend’s playlist

  • slipknot – all hope is gone
  • meshuggah – destroy erase improve / obzen
  • the black dahlia murder – nocturnal

Ugolino

The story of the Pisan traitor Ugolino della Gherardesca, imprisoned with his sons and condemned to starvation was told by Dante in The Inferno. The sculpture by Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux shows the anguished father resisting his sons’ offer of their own bodies for his sustenance.

Dare desu ka?!

This is Ichigo from the Japanese manga Bleach, written & illustrated by Kubo Tite. It’s one of the several manga titles I’ve been reading. The scene is from Volume 22, Chapter 192, where Ichigo whips Yammy’s butt. I’ve probably read this chapter over 20 times already now. It never gets old, I’ll probably be reading it over & over again while waiting for the next chapter to be released..

Hanging Up

Haven’t been shooting lately, some tasks I’ve been putting off for later – laundry, dishes, errands, cleaning up my PC.. to name the few – now caught up with me. Now I’m swamped. Here’s one from last Sunday’s shoot while taking a breather.

Furai

Early this morning, on my way to see the Easter parade at 5th Avenue, there was a lot of things running on my mind. Especially since the trains were running local, I had a lot of time to cerebrate. One of them was deciding whether to forgo the Easter parade for the Auto Show. Needless to say, I opted for the Auto Show, and it was great!

Here’s a quick clip of what this car is all about. Lifted from Wikipedia.

The Mazda Furai is a concept car revealed on 27 December, 2007 and manufactured by Mazda. A teaser image of the vehicle was released on 11 December, 2007. The Furai officially debuts at the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

The Furai, meaning Sound of the wind, is based on the Courage Compétition C65 Le Mans Prototype that Mazda last used to compete in the American Le Mans Series, two seasons previously[3] and is designed to use E100 ethanol fuel. The car bears the #55 number that of its 1991 24 Hours of Le Mans winning ancestor, the 787B.

Ni Hao

I’ve been focusing on shooting events, street, urban, landscape, sports & random “what-nots” while avoiding studio photography, the reason being that it’s readily available. Today, though, I was able to join a group of locals in a photo shoot. That group being the Brooklyn Camera Club. They’re a laid back, happy group of people and I didn’t have a hard time warming up to them. They claim to be the oldest photography club in America, they go back to 1864 & have newspaper clips to back up their claim. I’m inclined to believe them, because I’ll be joining them soon enough. 🙂

There were two set-ups, one in the kitchen & one with a backdrop. The setup was daunting at first because there was too much information to take in. It’s a good thing I wasn’t the only noob at photo shoots so I was able to get off a few good shots. I also didn’t realize that we had to direct what the models pose would be. Jeez, what do I know about poses?? Oh well, there’s a first for everything.

Now, on to the models. The girl on the left is Kayi & the one on the right is Marlie.

Blooey Yorkie

For every yin, there’s a yang. Somehow I got lost yesterday but I got to see this station at F’s York Street. The stark blue steel foundations against the drab station literally screamed at me to take it’s picture. Though I was a bit tentative setting up the tripod because of the heightened paranoia caused by the bombing at Times Square, I was lucky to get off a few shots. 🙂

Cherubs

If you’ve ever been to The Met, you’ve probably have been into one of those European rooms that have been reconstructed & restored in one of the gallery rooms. The reconstructed room may originally be a part of a house or a hotel and is made to look exactly like the original. This photo is just a part of what the bedroom ceiling looks like. Creepy, no? I couldn’t imagine sleeping in one of those big four poster beds, in a room with a bunch of sculptures or carvings of cherubs / babies (however cute they may be). It’s just plain creepy.

Yesterday’s first “major” winter snowfall disturbed a hornet’s nest. I mean “camera-toting” hornets. Despite the snowfall & the failing light, Central Park was bustling with tourists & locals alike lugging either a flimsy P&S or their hefty SLRs. I must’ve seen two guys with Hasselblads around Bethesda Fountian.

Superbowl Sunday

If you ask me, today’s photo is not at all worthy of being posted, but here it is anyways. Last night’s shot of a bottle of beer in front of the tv (with my new nifty fifty.. hehe..). Besides, I was in no particular mood to shoot anything today because of the dreary weather. So, as everyone might well know, the Giants won the Superbowl. Woohoo! We whooped Boston’s ass! Sweet revenge, what with them winning the World Series(baseball) and all. I guess this championship win is very satisfying, it’s been a few years since New York got hold of a championship win (see listing below). And the fans are really salivating for a win like this. I mean, NY fans are really hardcore. The way I see it, if the team is doing good, they’ll cheer their pants off for you, but if the team sucks, then that’s a different story. I’ve seen the Knicks for several times now, and let me tell you. They suck. ([chanting]Fire Isaiah![chanting]) Anyways, let’s go back on track now, shall we? Well, there’ll be a ticker parade tomorrow in honor of the Giants, but it’ll be held 11AM @ Downtown Manhattan. Yeah, I know, sounds fun.. but I guess I’ll just have to watch it in the news. But nonetheless, it’s a good thing I was here to experience it here at the “greatest city in the world” (from David Letterman).

  • NY Giants (Football) – Superbowl XXV – Jan 27, 1991
  • NY Jets (Football) – Superbowl III – Jan 12, 1969
  • NY Yankees (Baseball) – 2000 World Series
  • NY Mets (Baseball) – 1986 World Series
  • NY Knicks (Basketball) – Championships (1970, 1973) / Conference Titles (1994, 1999)

Happy 2008

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! *insert firecracker sounds here*

Yippee!! I’ve been reserving January 1, 2008’s post for a group photo to try out a technique I’ve learned through the internet called slow-sync. Well, the light trails weren’t that good so obviously a “bit” of post processing was done. To cap it off, this was actually taken in the future! =0 Shocking, no?! January 23, 2008 to be exact. What happened was, after watching the fireworks @ Prospect Park & commuting in the cold to get home, we were so conked out on New Year’s Eve so I totally forgot about it. So, the days passed and I was thinking of what to post on New Year’s Day, when BOOM! I thought of a group shot, but of course, an ordinary group shot wouldn’t do. But I needed 4 people to complete 2008. 01/23/08 was the day we got together again.. so at 3AM in the morning, here’s the result of our impromptu photo shoot.

Depending on which subway you might’ve been to in NY, chances are you will be encountering a very diverse group of artists (dancers & musicians) performing for the crowds for free. Some might even be on the train. Most of them congregate on stations with a high volume of people passing by like Times Square or Union Square. This guy is part of a 5/6 man brass & percussion band that I’ve seen twice already. They’re really good.
