brown pelican

..far better shot than what i had before..

The Brown Pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis) is the smallest of the eight species of pelican, although it is a large bird in nearly every other regard. It is 106–137 cm (42–54 in) in length, weighs from 2.75 to 5.5 kg (6-12 lb) and has a wingspan from 1.83 to 2.5 m (6 to 8.2 ft). (wiki)

You’ve captured this great looking bird with a fine angle. It nice to see the top side of a bird and shown with a fine amount of detail. Excellent shot.

Very nice and crisp and the angle of the bird is perfect! When I was in the Coast Guard in Florida we had a pelican (I don’t know the species but it was big) that lived in pilings just off the island. He (she?) was pretty tolerant of humans coming near. The darned things looked prehistoric, like a pterodactyl or something.

one time my sister and i were at the beach and we saw one of these. i blurted out the first thing in my head- look, it’s a penguin! i realized as soon as it left my mouth that it was wrong, i mean penguin, pelican, they are so alike sounding. but she won’t let me forget it. she still teases me about that.

Pelican’s are so cool, I love how the fish offshore, diving ffrom the sky for the fish. Again, these bird shots of your’s are so great, this one is very crisp as well. Great photo.
