..took a snap of this ship last year while i was shooting this because i thought it looked pretty cool.. turns out, it was a US Navy battleship in the making.. read the wikipedia clip below..
..the reason why i post this now is because i just saw in the news that it’s going to be inaugurated tomorrow (it won’t be open to the public and it’s gonna rain pretty hard tomorrow so..)
USS Independence (LCS-2), the class prototype for the Independence-class littoral combat ship, will be the sixth ship of the United States Navy to be named for the concept of independence. It is the design competitor produced by the General Dynamics consortium, in competition with the Lockheed Martin-designed USS Freedom, the prototype for the Freedom-class littoral combat ship.
It is intended as a small assault transport with a variety of capabilities depending on the mission module installed. The ship is a trimaran design capable of over 40 knots (74 km/h; 46 mph), and was delivered to the US Navy at the end of 2009.

Great framing . Such a clear, detailed picture .
What a fantastic vessel..and so well captured!!!
Nice info about the ship and lovel picture.
…and we heard it here first:-) Really nice, Rian.
Very cool story and picture!!
the ship looks huge – this aside i like how you’ve lined this up. perfect amounts of sea and sky.
Pretty futuristic looking battleship…..you captured it well.
I agree that it’s quite futuristic. Nice detail in the photo too.
The thing that struck me about this was the odd color of the ship. I guess that’s pre-paintjob? Great photo of a ship in the works.
Very cool shot. Of course now Homeland Security will be confiscating your camera and reformatting your hard drives. Happy now law breaker? JK!
I’d say this color is final – it’s camo. Nice to see the Navy reconfiguring to meet current threats. If I had 9 lives and could pick `em, I’d be a career Navy man in one of them.
