Group of Four Trees, 1969-72ArtistJean DubuffetLocationThe Chase Manhattan Bank Plaza, off Pine Street, between Nassau and William Streets.DescriptionGroup of Four Trees is a black and white sculpture standing just in front of the black and white Chase Manhattan Bank building. The similarities between the sculpture and building, however, stop there. The building’s straight lines and evenly-spaced rows of windows stand in contrast to the irregular surfaces of Group of Four Trees. The forms of the trees are made up of a series of varying planes, all white, and connected together by thick black outlines. The trees’ canopies lean in different directions, and the heights of the four trees are all different, making the viewer’s eye move all around the sculpture, following the many lines that are present.(source)

..long time no moleman.. here’s one..
The James A. Farley Building is the main post office building in New York City. Its ZIP code designation is 10001. Built in 1912, the building is famous for bearing the inscription: Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds. In 1982, the post office was officially designated ‘”The James A. Farley Building'”, as a monument and testament to the political career of the nation’s 53rd Postmaster General. The Farley Post Office is home to “Operation Santa,” made famous in the classic 1947 film Miracle on 34th Street. (wiki)

post no bills
Madison Equities, headed by Robert Gladstone, emerged in the 1970’s as one of Manhattan’s more adventurous developers, and this is its flagship, a Post-Modem building of considerable originality.
It is also the one of the best New York buildings by Kohn Pedersen Fox, a New York-based architectural firm that since the beginning of the 1980’s has been The best high-rise architectural firm in the nation, although it is far from that firm’s best work, which reflects only the terrible restrictive and inane building and zoning regulations of New York. ..i’ve been doing a lot of housekeeping and noticed a bunch of photos rotting on my hard drive.. so i’m unloading them on to my flickr account for others to gawk at.. some of them that i find cool enough would end up here.. like this one.. there must be some reason behind the scary demon masks they wore at the puerto rican parade..
Vejigantes or paper mache masks worn during the carnival are the island’s most popular craft. Tangles of menacing horns, fang-toothed leering expression, and bulging eyes of these half-demon, half-animal creations makes these masks frightening, particularly at nighttime. During carnival time, masked revelers roam the streets in their bat-winged costumes either individually or in groups. (more)
