big guns
..it’s the first time i’ve been up close with these kinds of ships so bear with me as i post more from the trip.. ;P
USS Alabama (BB-60), a South Dakota-class battleship, was the sixth completed ship named Alabama of the United States Navy, however she was only the third commissioned ship with that name. Alabama was commissioned in 1942 and served in World War II in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. She was decommissioned in 1947 and assigned to the reserve duty. She retired in 1962. In 1964, Alabama was taken to Mobile Bay and opened as a museum ship the following year. The ship was added to the National Historic Landmark registry in 1986.
..if you’re a fan of these ships (or just like to gawk at them), i suggest you swing by Hess site, he’s doing a series on USS Lexington.. we’re having a “gun show”.. 😀

mobile bikers
..never had the time (or motivation) to walk around and observe my surroundings here in Mobile.. so yesterday, i went out for a walk and just after 5 minutes walking, i heard loud, throbbing roars coming from 150-200 big bikes passing by the road.. i thought to myself, ” man, how lucky can i be.. 😀 “.. i easily filled up 2gigs+ worth of raw photos.. i’ll be posting them in the gallery today and put the link up tomorrow.. now, i don’t know what the event was nor what those bikes are called but they sure look nice.. 😀
*..i’ve tweaked the display size for portrait-oriented images so load times will take sometime because they’re HUGE.. 🙂
cat & mouse
..took the boat out for a weekend cruise down the gulf of mexico..donned some cheesy, flowery, mexican shirt, a sombrero and a mustachio..played cat & mouse with the po-po’s..as shown here..they think i’m packing..why would they think that?
hot rod, rat rod, shmat rod
last saturday, i was preoccupied with technical mumbo-jumbo to make shots look good, that i missed a crucial part.. to gather information about the subjects.. well, of course i could google it and find out about it later, but now i was thinking that it would be better if it came from the owners themselves.. too bad, maybe i’ll give it a try later..
my buddy told me that these were rat rods.. the model? year? specs? i dunno.. they looked so damn good i just snapped away.. 🙂
touchdown
..my hare-brained scheme to evacuate to another state where there was a chance that it’ll be hit by gustav was a lesson learned.. a lesson that gator tail tastes good.. and shiner bock gives you a wicked hangover.. see? we all learn from our mistakes.. 😛
..and what does it feel like to fly on a jumpy plane over gustav? ( insert barfing sounds here )
..next weekend i’m off to nyc.. hope the weather cooperates and give me a smooth ride, if not, i’ll be downing $5 cocktails till i drop, or till my wallet pops..
..hope everyone had a great weekend.. 😀
SS
first off, i appreciate those bidding me a safe trip while traveling through the hurricane season.. thanks guys.. 🙂 after having 2 flights cancelled, i hope this one would go on unhindered..
still from the a houston parking lot, another gas guzzler (5.7L V8), a (1967?) Chevy Camaro SS..
the old & the not so new
..still ensconced in my buddy’s place, avoiding the storm, guzzling booze and sampling the local cuisine (gator tail).. also went to a parking lot and saw a bunch of American muscle cars.. *drool*..
Lights, Motor, Action
a nice thing about my weekend was that i wasn’t the “tour guide”.. i was the “tourist” so i just tagged along and had fun.. so i didn’t know what to expect when we entered this show but soon found out that it was an auto stunt show, sweet!! there were cars & motorcycle chases, then they were flying around ramps and stuff, guns were a-popping, flames shot out and explosions were blowing up like loco, just your typical hollywood auto stunt shoot.. and of course Herbie was there.. 🙂
Mad Max
..outta my way, or else..
Hummin’ By
Taken last year on a road trip along the streets of Huntington Beach, California.. a ‘decent-sized’ thing passed by us..
With today’s gas prices, who knows if he’ll be able to buy gas for this monster.. 😀
1936
Beneath all the glitz & glamour of those technologically advance automobiles at Javits Center, there was this less populous exhibit. It was a display of cars from the LeMay Museum, America’s car museum. And here was one of it’s stars, the 1936 Hudson Custom Eight Convertible Coupe.
Furai
Early this morning, on my way to see the Easter parade at 5th Avenue, there was a lot of things running on my mind. Especially since the trains were running local, I had a lot of time to cerebrate. One of them was deciding whether to forgo the Easter parade for the Auto Show. Needless to say, I opted for the Auto Show, and it was great!
Here’s a quick clip of what this car is all about. Lifted from Wikipedia.
The Mazda Furai is a concept car revealed on 27 December, 2007 and manufactured by Mazda. A teaser image of the vehicle was released on 11 December, 2007. The Furai officially debuts at the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
The Furai, meaning Sound of the wind, is based on the Courage Compétition C65 Le Mans Prototype that Mazda last used to compete in the American Le Mans Series, two seasons previously[3] and is designed to use E100 ethanol fuel. The car bears the #55 number that of its 1991 24 Hours of Le Mans winning ancestor, the 787B.
Fiery
Wow, the first day of spring! It didn’t actually feel like it though, it’s still freezing cold. I’ll give it a few more weeks and see what happens. Maybe it’s global warming that’s causing all this. I wonder how hot summer will be. Hmm.. Fiery?
Vintage
Shiny, happy tech news! Canon released the successor to the 400D, the 450D. It’s all out in the web so just Google it for more info. Not so good news for me because the value of the 400D is going to drop. Not so big an issue though, because the 400D spews out good looking photos like that vintage car up there. =P

PORSH-uh
Got home on a rainy weekend afternoon and saw this Porsche parked in front of our apartment. Being the country bumpkin and not used to these luxury cars parked around, I got my camera and shot a few bursts.
