sibyl temple
The Sibyl Temple was originally built in 1929 as a garden gazebo at Vestavia, the Shades Mountain estate of former Birmingham Mayor George Ward. It is a replica of the Temple of Sibyl in Tivoli, Italy near Rome. It now sits atop Shades Mountain along U.S. Highway 31 at Shades Crest Road in Vestavia Hills, which takes its name from the former estate.

..the leaves have been starting to turn yellow here in birmingham.. haven’t had the chance to shoot around here yet, so here’s something from the archives.. back when i was in brooklyn.. my obligatory fall shot.. there might (or might not) be some more fall photos..
..if the “house-sized rock” looks like a speck, then you can imagine how huge this crater is, right?

..yet another panorama of a sunset scene in Big Sur..

..one of the many stops we took along the PCH.. geotagging your position comes in handy at times like these, where i could’ve had a better title than what i have now..

..as i’ve said before, it was worth getting bruised..

…
..i was kinda wishing that i could be at the beach a while ago, but then again, it was over 100° F.. i stayed at home and slept instead.. 🙂
..took this while i was down by Crescent Bay in Laguna Beach.. there was a spot that looked very, very promising, but before reaching that, i had to traverse through the beach, and up some slippery rocks with some waves crashing up because of high tide while wearing flip flops and lugging several pounds of gear.. well, that didn’t end well, i ended up missing a step and slipped.. my cam was spared, but my shin & knee wasn’t.. at least i got some good ones.. lol.. i’ll try returning for some more shots later..
..i wasn’t there but saw it online, Kelly Slater won the competition and bagged the $105,000 prize..
..my bird ID’ing skills aren’t up to par yet, but i think this is a pacific golden plover.. 🙂
..if you take a look at the upper right frame of yesterday’s post, you’d notice that this is how it looks like up close..
..this was where i was stalking the humming bird i shot a few posts back..
…
..when not flitting around from flower to flower, the humming bird just hangs around and chills..
..the good thing with being the driver on a road trip is that you get to choose when and where to stop.. well, since i was the driver, i get to do that.. and that’s exactly what i did.. that’s why it took us almost a week to get to San Francisco and back.. here’s one of the first stops, somewhere around the Gaviota State Park..
McWay Falls is an 80 foot waterfall located in Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park that flows year-round. Like Alamere Falls, this waterfall is one of only two in the region that are close enough to the ocean to be referred as “tidefalls”. It is located on McWay Creek.Although it can be viewed via a trail from above, the beach and scenic cove below is difficult to access by land, however, it could be easily reached by boat. Even with this possibility, it is not recommended that people visit the beach as a safety precaution due to crumbling cliffs and environmental reasons.
..when you started shooting, you must’ve seen some stunning images of hummingbirds and wanted to capture one yourself.. but if there aren’t any of them around you, well, tough luck.. or if there were, chances are, you don’t have the right lens on, or were too late pressing the shutter.. because they’re really FAST! ..well, it definitely wasn’t easy shooting this hummingbird, but i’m glad i got a decent shot.. 🙂
..a small stream flowing through this lush foliage in garrapata beach..

noah’s ark
..a drive-by shot of a rock formation we saw that resembled noah’s ark along AZ 389..
..i created a new category for shots like these.. “landscape paparazzi” 😀
..nope, not a photoshoot.. it’s a candid shot i took of a girl posing for a friend of hers..
..nope, she wasn’t lying down.. the flowers were 3-4 feet from the ground, she was bending backwards, like playing limbo..
..a small waterfall found in Garrapata Beach..
