..i’ll leave this untitled for now, i’ll do my research later.. my back’s killing me.. XD
Category: Event
..so i eventually went to the Anime Expo here in LA convention center and it was a good thing i did! if you’re into animation and japanese culture and all that, then you’d definitely have fun here.. items are a bit pricey though, but if you bring your camera and just walk the halls, you’d get a lot of great pics of cosplayers.. like this one over here.. 🙂
..went and saw a free light, pyro & water show at san diego..
*just read this guy’s impression of the show..
..we’re celebrating the 112th year of our independence back in the philippines..
..walk with pride.. 🙂
..my ears are still ringing as i write this.. i went to a Sevendust concert last night and was able to squeeze out a few shots from the mosh pit.. this is Lajon Witherspoon(vocals) & John Connolly (guitars)..
..centurions drink bud light..
..that’s what those college kids were screaming out loud behind us.. they were looking to get the beads thrown by drew brees but none fell our way..
..gave this the b&w look with fat, chunky grain..
..one of the many people dressed up for mardi gras.. she was nice enough to pose for the camera.. 🙂
..well, today is mardi gras and it doesn’t get more mardi gras than this, Drew Brees (New Orleans Saints QB) in costume (as king bacchus) throwing beads to the rabid crowds.. pretty crappy shot, but what the heck, this is the only decent shot i got.. i’ll be posting some shots here in the following days, if i don’t then, just check it out on my flickr..
..lemme tell you, catching beads ain’t a walk in the park.. we saw a sobbing young girl holding a bloody hanky over her mouth, i guess she was hit by those flying beads.. i managed to catch a few beads too, not intentionally but just to shield the front element of my lens from being smashed by those beads, and boy were they heavy..
Bacchus was organized in 1968 by a group of New Orleanians who wanted to break with Carnival tradition by opening membership to out-of-town visitors and guests. They also wanted to present “the biggest and best parade and most imaginative, animated floats.” They have several signature floats, including King, Queen and Baby Kong and a dinosaur known as “Bacchasaurus.”Saints quarterback Drew Brees will reign as Bacchus.Did you know: This organization was one of the first to have celebrity monarchs. ..got back from driving around Pensacola.. there was a parade awhile ago which we didn’t go see, instead, we went to the naval aviation museum.. we’ll it’s a long story so here’s a Mardi Gras float.. 🙂
..i was thinking of posting this somewhat nsfw photo yesterday but it was a work day and some might be at work, so here’s to saturday! 🙂 i can’t say if this was some kind of spandex costume, i’ll leave it to your imagination..
..i’ve been somewhat inactive in the commenting section because i was busy lamebooking.. lol! –> lamebook.com
..this one’s a great costume to keep your identity anonymous.. 🙂
..that’s one great dracula smile.. 🙂
..on a sidenote, argh, the yankees lost.. 🙁
..or that’s what i think they are..
*i left the grain there so no complaining about it.. 😛
..cruella’s doin’ the howlin’..
..they don’t call this the Village Halloween Parade for nothing.. 🙂
..i think they even choreographed their walk to be “thriller-esque” 🙂
..a part of me felt guilty not leveling (straightening) this image, but, oh well..
da vinci wings
..with regards to yesterday’s post, i have no idea what that was, i just named it ‘butterfly’ because i just ran out of ideas.. lol.. here’s another one from the parade..

..despite the hot, humid conditions, the half marathon last sunday was a fun run.. the initial hydrating stations were a mess, i think i drank too much gatorade, i wore the wrong shoes (= blisters), and they ran out of medals (boo)..
..i also held back because i was waiting for the wifey’s text message from our predetermined photo op areas and hopefully get in some crazy poses, but due to crazy traffic, and people milling around, she just got some shots of me from the finish line..
..here’s a where’s waldo type of shot..

..yep, it’s a monday..
..view this in mono..
..i did have a good seat when watching this event, too bad there was a big head blocking the view, so i just stood at the back of the crowd and snapped away.. i was lucky enough to get some eye contact from some of the dancers..

..i’ve been doing a lot of housekeeping and noticed a bunch of photos rotting on my hard drive.. so i’m unloading them on to my flickr account for others to gawk at.. some of them that i find cool enough would end up here.. like this one.. there must be some reason behind the scary demon masks they wore at the puerto rican parade..
Vejigantes or paper mache masks worn during the carnival are the island’s most popular craft. Tangles of menacing horns, fang-toothed leering expression, and bulging eyes of these half-demon, half-animal creations makes these masks frightening, particularly at nighttime. During carnival time, masked revelers roam the streets in their bat-winged costumes either individually or in groups. (more)
..still from last year’s event, here’s a cosplayer.. i didn’t know what character she was so i just picked this image with her back to me..
..it’s the weekend! i feel like flying.. nah, i’ll just stay in bed..
..taken at the same time when i was out looking for the ‘manhattanhenge’ a few months back.. saw a biker doing some stunts for the CBS morning show thingy so i decided to drop by and shoot a few..
..a little girl doodling on the street.. nyc rocks!? 😀
..not that i totally agree with what this picket sign says, but you get my point.. i don’t want rockets raining down my country’s border either but i also don’t want civilians getting hurt.. so here i am making a stand while sitting on my beanbag..
..protesters at 2nd ave where the israeli consulate is located (taken: 1/3/09)
..the times square ball will be dropped down the same time tomorrow as i post this image now.. referencing a clock face, it’ll be at the building located at six o’ clock.. the One Times Square Building.. and the stage where the performers would be is where i stood while taking this shot.. dunno if we’ll be standing there freezing our asses off / watching fireworks somewhere / boozing at a bar / wolfing foodies / sleeping soundly.. i just wish everyone out there a HAPPY NEW YEAR!! 😀
..yeah, i know..
..a little bit early for halloween..
..still from the night before, but now from a different place.. from brooklyn heights.. the cityscape was obstructed by the structures down below.. if i had the time and patience to do so, i’d probably have some more from staten island and new jersey as well..
tribute in light
..the twin beams of ‘tribute in light’ returned yesterday for a one night tribute to all those lost on 9/11 as well as those who worked in its aftermath.. the lights were located at West & Morris streets in Lower Manhattan, was on since sunset up until dawn this morning.. a plethora of people came out in droves to witness it yet again, including a BUNCH of photographers shown here..
..a mini virtuoso in action..
this is a game of complete the sentence.. what do you think these guys are..
Fourth of July Fireworks
Okay, so here goes..
With so many vantage points to view the fireworks, we positioned ourselves where I shot this.. right smack in the East River Park. The weather was a bit dreary and it drizzled a bit, but all that helped to thin out the crowd. It was 30 minutes of pure pyrotechnic joy.. except of course, I was peering through the viewfinder while holding an umbrella. 😉
Oh, and if you squint and see what’s underneath the Brooklyn Bridge, you’ll see something that looks like a blue waterfall. Well that’s actually one of the four, $15M “Waterfall” art installment by Danish artist Olafur Eliasson. New Yorkers had a mixed reaction to it, some in favor and some who aren’t. It actually looks beautiful at night but during the day, you could see the scaffolds and the pipes that feeds the waterfall. And for $15M?! Come on..
Yesterday was the NYC Gay Pride Parade.. notable celebrities include Gov. Patterson & Candice Cayne, didn’t see them though, by the time I got in front of NYPL, the clouds darkened and in a matter of minutes it poured. But the parade went on with the same intensity that it had the moment I arrived.
Here’s a guy dressed like a character in 300. I’m not sure what message he was trying to send though. 🙂
A final photo from the parade.. A guy in a blue fish costume..
Still from the parade.. this guy opted to look like a barnacle-encrusted abomination.. which seemed to suit him quite well..
On a sidenote, this guy was also running around scaring kids with his mask. (Quite funny if you ask me..)
