king bacchus

..well, today is mardi gras and it doesn’t get more mardi gras than this, Drew Brees (New Orleans Saints QB) in costume (as king bacchus) throwing beads to the rabid crowds.. pretty crappy shot, but what the heck, this is the only decent shot i got.. i’ll be posting some shots here in the following days, if i don’t then, just check it out on my flickr..

..lemme tell you, catching beads ain’t a walk in the park.. we saw a sobbing young girl holding a bloody hanky over her mouth, i guess she was hit by those flying beads.. i managed to catch a few beads too, not intentionally but just to shield the front element of my lens from being smashed by those beads, and boy were they heavy..

Bacchus was organized in 1968 by a group of New Orleanians who wanted to break with Carnival tradition by opening membership to out-of-town visitors and guests. They also wanted to present “the biggest and best parade and most imaginative, animated floats.” They have several signature floats, including King, Queen and Baby Kong and a dinosaur known as “Bacchasaurus.”
Saints quarterback Drew Brees will reign as Bacchus.
Did you know: This organization was one of the first to have celebrity monarchs. (nola.com)

st. charles line

Streetcars in New Orleans have been an integral part of the city’s public transportation network since the first half of the 19th century. The longest of New Orleans’ streetcar lines, the St. Charles Avenue Streetcar, is the oldest continuously operating street railway system in the world, according to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Today, the streetcars are operated by the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA). (wiki)

st. louis cathedral

..after dinner, en route to cafe du monde, we passed by the st. louis cathedral and since most of the people were celebrating Southern Decadence on bourbon street, there wasn’t that much people around.. so we stopped by and tried taking a shot of this at night.. i propped the cam at an angle on my slippers and bracketed the shot, thinking that the last and longest exposure was done, i took the camera and boom, i spoiled the shot.. or maybe not.. 😀

anne rice cemetery

..too bad this was closed when we went there, but it was still a good photo op.. 🙂

Lafayette No. One is known as the “Anne Rice Cemetery” to many, because the author has set a number of scenes from both her “Mayfair Witches” and “Vampire” novels there.  When the movie “Interview With The Vampire” was filmed, the production company constructed a plywood “tomb” in an empty corner of the cemetery because a normal tomb was obviously too small to shoot Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise sitting inside it! 1239

..i’m a big anne rice fan, that’s why when i read somewhere that she started out in new orleans and had a house here, i just had to take a snap of it.. so here it is 1239 first street, there was a remax sign in the gate though..

..you have to view this in mono, it’s pretty funky.. 😀

famous door

..back from new orleans, it was a great place to explore and would certainly try going back again.. did a lot of touristy stuff and stuffed food like crazy.. this here was shot while strolling down bourbon street at night.. i have no idea how it looks like at daytime, but at night, it sure was really wild.. my wife’s gaydar blew up  that time because this labor day weekend was the time they celebrated Southern Decadence, so i guess if you’re a single straight male planning to go there on the labor day weekend, i highly suggest you refrain from doing so.. ;D

..here’s one shot i thought of posting for today but wasn’t really a clear capture, but was worth sharing anyways..
