shadows and flags
Louise Nevelson Plaza on Maiden Lane is the first public place to be named after an artist in New York. Nevelson was an eccentric, exotic soul whose work can be found all over the city. Most of her sculpture is “found” art: bits of wood and metal painted black and bound together. This park is all hers: Shadows and Flags, (1977) 40 feet high, is made up of 7 sculptures of Cor-ten steel painted black. (description from wallyg’s flickr)

..in shooting street, you may sometimes encounter someone who really doesn’t want to have his/her photo taken.. what do you do when you encounter someone like that? i personally don’t know what to do.. take this one, for instance.. she was just trying to take a snap of the guy’s dog but he went ballistic on her.. tsk3..
..on to the shot, this was taken by wifey on a picnic in the park, there was a mayoral candidate beside us campaigning while lounging under a tree, talking to locals and giving away stuff..

st. louis cathedral
..after dinner, en route to cafe du monde, we passed by the st. louis cathedral and since most of the people were celebrating Southern Decadence on bourbon street, there wasn’t that much people around.. so we stopped by and tried taking a shot of this at night.. i propped the cam at an angle on my slippers and bracketed the shot, thinking that the last and longest exposure was done, i took the camera and boom, i spoiled the shot.. or maybe not.. π

..back from new orleans, it was a great place to explore and would certainly try going back again.. did a lot of touristy stuff and stuffed food like crazy.. this here was shot while strolling down bourbon street at night.. i have no idea how it looks like at daytime, but at night, it sure was really wild.. my wife’s gaydar blew upΓΒ that time because this labor day weekend was the time they celebrated Southern Decadence, so i guess if you’re a single straight male planning to go there on the labor day weekend, i highly suggest you refrain from doing so.. ;D
..here’s one shot i thought of posting for today but wasn’t really a clear capture, but was worth sharing anyways..

..despite the hot, humid conditions, the half marathon last sunday was a fun run.. the initial hydrating stations were a mess, i think i drank too much gatorade, i wore the wrong shoes (= blisters), and they ran out of medals (boo)..
..i also held back because i was waiting for the wifey’s text message from our predetermined photo op areas and hopefully get in some crazy poses, but due to crazy traffic, and people milling around, she just got some shots of me from the finish line..

..i’ve been doing a lot of housekeeping and noticed a bunch of photos rotting on my hard drive.. so i’m unloading them on to my flickr account for others to gawk at.. some of them that i find cool enough would end up here.. like this one.. there must be some reason behind the scary demon masks they wore at the puerto rican parade..
Vejigantes or paper mache masks worn during the carnival are the islandΓ’β¬β’s most popular craft. Tangles of menacing horns, fang-toothed leering expression, and bulging eyes of these half-demon, half-animal creations makes these masks frightening, particularly at nighttime. During carnival time, masked revelers roam the streets in their bat-winged costumes either individually or in groups. (more)
