..i’m a big anne rice fan, that’s why when i read somewhere that she started out in new orleans and had a house here, i just had to take a snap of it.. so here it is 1239 first street, there was a remax sign in the gate though..
..you have to view this in mono, it’s pretty funky.. 😀
..back from new orleans, it was a great place to explore and would certainly try going back again.. did a lot of touristy stuff and stuffed food like crazy.. this here was shot while strolling down bourbon street at night.. i have no idea how it looks like at daytime, but at night, it sure was really wild.. my wife’s gaydar blew up that time because this labor day weekend was the time they celebrated Southern Decadence, so i guess if you’re a single straight male planning to go there on the labor day weekend, i highly suggest you refrain from doing so.. ;D
..here’s one shot i thought of posting for today but wasn’t really a clear capture, but was worth sharing anyways..

..shenanigans! 😀 yep, similar to yesterday’s post, this was shot at an auto show and given the panning look via photoshop.. by the time you read this, i might be probably roaming around the streets of new orleans.. have a rockin’ weekend.. 🙂

..still using a regular flash gun here, tilted in some contorted way just to illuminate the subject.. framing’s not topnotch because i was manual focusing while tiptoeing.. was a bit edgy too because this looked like a nasty spider and i wasn’t aware if it gave a nasty bite or not.. turns out they do.. 😀
The golden silk orb-weavers (genus Nephila) are a genus of spiders noted for the impressive webs they weave. Nephila consists of numerous individual species found around the world. They are also commonly called golden orb-weavers, giant wood spiders or banana spiders. In North America, the golden silk orb-weavers (see also Nephila clavipes) are sometimes referred to as writing spiders due to occasional zigzag patterns (stabilimenta) built into their webs, though these occur much more frequently in the webs of Argiope, such as the St Andrew’s Cross spider. ..a new category has been added here called macro.. i’ve been leaning towards doing macro now because i’ve not much to shoot here nowadays especially when i can’t roam around the place a lot.. but we do have a lake here and a fair amount of trees and bushes to explore so let’s see where that’ll lead me..
..so far, for shooting bugs 1:1, i found it difficult to shoot in available light because of the limited DOF, so i’ve created a DIY ring light and it looks promising (i haven’t used it on this spider though, it’s just your regular flash)..

..it’s the first time i’ve been up close with these kinds of ships so bear with me as i post more from the trip.. ;P
USS Alabama (BB-60), a South Dakota-class battleship, was the sixth completed ship named Alabama of the United States Navy, however she was only the third commissioned ship with that name. Alabama was commissioned in 1942 and served in World War II in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. She was decommissioned in 1947 and assigned to the reserve duty. She retired in 1962. In 1964, Alabama was taken to Mobile Bay and opened as a museum ship the following year. The ship was added to the National Historic Landmark registry in 1986.
..if you’re a fan of these ships (or just like to gawk at them), i suggest you swing by Hess site, he’s doing a series on USS Lexington.. we’re having a “gun show”.. 😀

..i also held back because i was waiting for the wifey’s text message from our predetermined photo op areas and hopefully get in some crazy poses, but due to crazy traffic, and people milling around, she just got some shots of me from the finish line..

Ungainly Matron
The 54-story result is among the most ungainly forms on the skyline, like a matron who swathes herself in thick layers of fabric in a vain attempt to slim her burgeoning silhouette. The tower climaxes with a spire as impressive as an auto antenna..(more)
