..this is the same spot where i shot yesterday’s shot, and this one, and the pillow fight..

..the empire state building’s tip, reminds me of a movie/cartoon i saw that had death rays in it..
..come on mankind, blast those aliens.. *pew*pew*pew*

while looking for a sweet spot to plant our behinds during the concert at the park series of the ny philharmonic orchestra, Â i managed to pick up something interesting.. someone’s portrait on a balloon.. 😀 nyc is filled with the artistic lot that judging from this balloon, a bit of effort was placed to making it look the way it looked, and a short missive to boot.. perhaps a way to cope with the boredom while waiting for the music to start..Â
if you are reading this, that means you are at the concert on the lawn on 6-24-08 please try to ignore or artistically embrace the mad crazy portrait on the buttox (buttocks) of this helium balloon, better yet… suck the gaseous air from the bodice of this balloon and enjoy 45 seconds of squeeky wow lol high pitched sopano (soprano?) entertainment

..taken during museum mile 2008 event along the upper east side, the bell choir in front of the episcopal church of the heavenly rest.. i don’t know what song they’re performing, but it certainly wasn’t metallica’s ‘for whom the bell tolls’ 😛
..back when i was in a metal band, i was pretty much satisfied with a $100 beat-up guitar and a boss metal zone stomp box.. (i guess i still owe my buddy jerky for that guitar.. ah hell, he’s a rich kid anyways.. hehe..) even though feedback was hellish, i’d still crank up the knobs to get that rich chunky sound and we’d unleash hell covering songs from slayer, pantera & machine head.. hah! those were the good times..
..this here’s the headstock of a B.C. Rich Kerry King Wartribe guitar owned by my buddy jones.. this axe is WICKED!!! AXE-LLENT!!! 😀 on my next visit to texas, we’re gonna go visit dimebag darrel’s grave.. hah! 😀
corollary to that, here’s this weekend’s playlist
last saturday, i was preoccupied with technical mumbo-jumbo to make shots look good, that i missed a crucial part.. to gather information about the subjects.. well, of course i could google it and find out about it later, but now i was thinking that it would be better if it came from the owners themselves.. too bad, maybe i’ll give it a try later..
my buddy told me that these were rat rods.. the model? year? specs? i dunno.. they looked so damn good i just snapped away.. 🙂
..my hare-brained scheme to evacuate to another state where there was a chance that it’ll be hit by gustav was a lesson learned.. a lesson that gator tail tastes good.. and shiner bock gives you a wicked hangover.. see? we all learn from our mistakes.. 😛
..and what does it feel like to fly on a jumpy plane over gustav? ( insert barfing sounds here )
..next weekend i’m off to nyc.. hope the weather cooperates and give me a smooth ride, if not, i’ll be downing $5 cocktails till i drop, or till my wallet pops..
..hope everyone had a great weekend.. 😀
first off, i appreciate those bidding me a safe trip while traveling through the hurricane season.. thanks guys.. 🙂 after having 2 flights cancelled, i hope this one would go on unhindered..
still from the a houston parking lot, another gas guzzler (5.7L V8), a (1967?) Chevy Camaro SS..
..killing time, playing a game of (watchamacallit) while waiting for tapioca drinks to sate our thirst & to get away from the beating, unforgiving texan heat..
..still ensconced in my buddy’s place, avoiding the storm, guzzling booze and sampling the local cuisine (gator tail).. also went to a parking lot and saw a bunch of American muscle cars.. *drool*..
..no smart aleck description.. just a couple meeting up in union square.. shot three floors above a department store..
*with gustaf escalating from a tropical storm to a hurricane, i felt that it was prudent to go to my buddy in houston to guzzle down some fine booze.. 😉
this is a game of complete the sentence.. what do you think these guys are..
what’s not to love about this city that’s bounded by bridges..
except for the ‘being lonely’ part.. here’s a great article from the NYTimes about newcomers to NYC..
*shot from the staten island ferry (free ride)
cooped up at home has it’s perks.. i got to catch up on some surfing.. and not a moment too soon! because there was these rumors spreading around about those new cams from Nikon & Canon, and true enough, Canon’s website confirmed that the 50D (ISO 12800!!) would be available soon.. (my 40D is just a few months old) the horror.. the horror.. well, this might be a significant upgrade for those of you using pre 40D’s ( 30D, 20D & 10D(?) ).. Nikon’s supposed D90 on the other hand.. they said it’s been pulled from the Circuit City ad, but it has GPS geotagging?! HD video?! wtf?!
dpreview -> 50D
dpreview -> D90 (not a rumor anymore)
and no, this guy wasn’t a panhandler.. he’s actually pretty good.. 🙂
..for the utterly dreary weather..here’s to you, fey..
i bet you’re thinking.. “ptooey?! that’s it? that’s soo creative..” i guess creativity goes down a few notches after spending the whole day watching a few b movies.. dont’cha think?
..yesterday’s weather was kinda depressing.. what’s left of Fey is now over the south and she’s pissing like a drunk sailor.. winds were not that strong but was strong enough to blow some stuff “to infinity and beyond..”
..parents were coaxing this kid to smile & pose for the camera.. i followed their lead and shadowed their every move to get this.. of course i was a few feet away or they’d see me as some sort of weirdo or something.. hehe..
EPCOT (Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow) – lifted off from wikipedia:
Epcot is a theme park at the Walt Disney World Resort. The park is dedicated to international culture and technological innovation. The second park built at the resort, it opened on October 1, 1982 and was named EPCOT Center until 1994.
In 2007 Epcot hosted approximately 10.93 million guests, ranking it the third-most visited theme park in the United States, and sixth-most visited in the world.
for anyone planning to go anywhere in disneyland, i’d suggest you bring a tripod or some sort of support because when dusk approaches, that’s when the fun starts.. i didn’t bring one because i figured that i’d have much more fun without lugging some stuff around.. hehe..
as a follow up to the “ny faux” post i did the other day, today’s post is about the real thing.. this here’s the flatiron building.. as you can see, the empire & the chrysler are nowhere in sight.. that is because, they’re behind me.. so that my friends, are some of the buildings in manhattan.. here’s an interesting description about manhattan from a commenter @ gawker:
“It is a complex miasma of longstanding social and economic gentrification; of people, regular and celebrity, of various races and ethnicities choosing to remain sequestered from one another, except during the hours between 9am and 5pm, or when they get their Chinese food delivered; of hot dog carts parked next to falafel carts parked next to storefront Wendys and Starbucks, creating a wonderfully malodorous assault on one’s senses, and possibly killing them; of the media elite and the blogging underclass, and vice versa, of course; of traffic and pigeons and sometime smells of caramel or fudge or swamp gas wafting in from New Jersey; of layoffs at newspapers, TV anchors under layers of makeup and radio reporters acting like the days of the week are ‘dress-down Fridays’; of sidewalk vendors selling goods you’d rather not know, or acknowledge, weren’t and will never be ‘the real thing’; of tall buildings that spit debris onto unwitting pedestrians below, and pedestrians that spit; and, above all, of triumph in love, of love in triumph, of all things ever thought romantic and tragic, right and wrong in the affairs of the heart. That, my child, is Manhattan, a floe of schist in humanity’s complex sea, and never, my child, shall we tramp there.”
a nice thing about my weekend was that i wasn’t the “tour guide”.. i was the “tourist” so i just tagged along and had fun.. so i didn’t know what to expect when we entered this show but soon found out that it was an auto stunt show, sweet!! there were cars & motorcycle chases, then they were flying around ramps and stuff, guns were a-popping, flames shot out and explosions were blowing up like loco, just your typical hollywood auto stunt shoot.. and of course Herbie was there.. 🙂
..looks weird doesn’t it, are you looking uptown or downtown..
..well, the gods must’ve heard me griping about my plight of absolute boredom that’s why they sent me my in-laws who brought me along with them to Orlando for the weekend.. LOL!
..once bitten by the shutterbug, it’s hard to find a cure to soothe that itch.. the need for better equipment also comes with that itch.. so if you’re on a tight budget like me, you find ways to get a deal.. shot this structure just off of columbia u while waiting for a gear-buyer..
..one thing i like to do in nyc is to just chill out on a bench and watch people go by..
..outta my way, or else..
Not being able to go out and mash that shutter button for quite sometime now had me thinking.. am I running out of ideas or am I running out of things to shoot..
Pretty weird title for this post huh? Well, hear me out. From the moment you get a brand-spankin’ new gadget like your dSLR, you treat it so delicately & gingerly, to the point the wifey looks at you in a weird way. And then you read some bad stuff and hope yours doesn’t have it. This shot was from a few months back when I read about dust bunnies. I shot a bunch of these just to test if I had them.. looks clean.. (or so it seems)
Rawr! I’m back from the grave! After almost a week-long hiatus I’m back! I just moved into a new apartment and had to go through all the usual utility connection thingies. Depressingly, I wasn’t able to leech off of anybody’s wifi internet connection..
Anyways, to start off the week with a crack & a bang, here’s a cemetery shot.
..just in front of the UN is this hulk of a building.. the 3 UN Plaza..
..a leisurely stroll towards Brooklyn, turn to the right and voila..
Until I get a license & a ride, I’ve no choice but to do mostly the NY series – interspersed with some random Alabama of course. Now here’s St. Patrick’s Cathedral yet again. I’m tempted to clone out the building beside it.. Hmmnn.. Nah..
..just some random plane flying off to some random place.. maaan, I need to get out sometime..

In a country that’s obsessed with size, an ad like this is definitely an eye-catcher.
I don’t get out as much as I’d like because over here, you’re a slave to your automobile. Well you can walk, as what I did on this probing stroll around the place which I called home for two weeks. It’s not a good idea to walk in the stifling, humid southeastern heat though. Aaargh…..
I wasn’t really asleep.. I was just meditating on unconsciousness..

Shot a strobe pointblank in the face of Muffins the cat. Tried it out myself afterwards..ouch..I’m seeing stars.. Now I know how you feel Muffins, sorry.. 😀
Why so big a moon?!
Is this photoshop fakery?! No it isn’t.
I was out in the wild with the wolves and rabbits.. Not true either.
Take a guess.. 😀
07/31/2008 Update:
Hmm.. 2 out of 9, not bad.. This was shot inside one of those Western-themed casinos in Atlantic City, NJ where John Maz has been recently shooting. 😀 And no, I don’t gamble.. LOL.
During my short stay in NYC, I was thinking of taking a picture of all the skyscrapers & all the fire departments in Manhattan. What became of that “project”? I dunno.. probably had to do with all those enticing street foods lurking around the corner.
If you’ve ever watched the movie Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer, you might remember a scene where the Human Torch chased after the Silver Surfer down a sloping white building.. this isn’t it (hehe).. that was the WR Grace Building along 42nd Street. This is it’s clone along 57th Street.
Taken last year on a road trip along the streets of Huntington Beach, California.. a ‘decent-sized’ thing passed by us..
With today’s gas prices, who knows if he’ll be able to buy gas for this monster.. 😀
..have you ever worked like a dog yet still feel like nothing’s getting accomplished?
As a result of boredom during the first and only MLB game I attended, I paid homage to the hotdog.. ( and soda.. and beer.. and m&ms.. and chips.. )
On a sidenote, watching Yankee fans bickering with Red Sox fans was far more amusing than the game. 😉
The facade of a building along the side streets of NY. A sign says it’s Then Bank of New York (Founded 1784).
Not much going on here in ‘Bama, it’s a good thing I’ve a bunch of NYC thingies. 🙂
This here’s the place where Late Night live recordings take place. I was fortunate enough to watch the show a few months back. IMO, his jokes weren’t that funny, sure it was entertaining but it seems a bit old.
Choo.. choo..
Graffiti is not unusual in NYC.. it makes you take it for granted. Come to think of it, think you could do a better job? 😉
Mannhattanhenge (not), spied on a stroll down Broadway.. It’s supposed to happen twice a year on the days around May 28 and (roughly) July 12.. so since this was shot July 15… hmm..
This is what you get after drinking several mugs of coffee..
